get involved in the global field of dance + social justice

What is Dance + Social Justice? - The use of dance to engender social change and accelerate movements toward social justice. Dance is not often recognized as a force for change in its own right, although it deserves to be.

Where does it happen? - Everywhere. Gesturing, emoting physically, and communicating with the body are built into our DNA. Every culture has one or many dance forms, making movement a readily accessible and scalable tool for expression, activism, and change.

Who is doing this work? - Changemakers and communities around the world use their chosen styles of dance to foster individual healing among various groups. They also powerfully address a variety of social issues on the stage and through nonprofits engaging entire communities.

FREE BODY PROJECT is the organization behind The Dance + Social Justice Film Series. We exist to amplify the voices of dance and social justice practitioners around the world through a global network, films, and live events. We held The Dance + Social Justice Conference from 2014 - 2017. FROM THERE TO HERE is our first participatory dance documentary film in a forthcoming series about movers changing the world.
